G2: My dream climb come true

Mt. Guiting-Guiting has always been that distant, intimidating dream mountain since I started climbing. I’ve always felt it was too scary and difficult, that I wouldn’t be fit enough to take on such a technical climb. I first planned on going last 2016 but eventually backed out knowing I wasn’t prepared. Another opportunity came in 2017 and this time I was determined to make it to G2.

A whole new world under the sea

Fact is, I’m a mountain person. But I’ve always been fascinated with the underwater world… an ecosystem on its own, with sea creatures big and small (turtles are my favorite), and colorful reefs. Unfortunately I could only go as far as the surface to snorkel (in a life vest, of course). Escape to Eastern Visayas: Sambawan Island

The Samar and Leyte regions aren’t really on my priority list of places to visit in the Philippines. When a friend was relocated to Tacloban for work, we decided to do some exploring last February. I didn’t have any expectations and it turned out to be quite an experience!

Since we only had 4 days and attractions were quite far from each other, we decided to do a relaxed trip and just cover 2 places: Sambawan Island in Biliran and Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte.

Taiwan-derful reasons to go now

I must admit I knew little of Taiwan before. I’ve always known it was our nearest neighbor up north, but apart from that and the phenomenal rise of the boy group F4 and their show Meteor Garden, I wasn’t as interested in its history or culture. With the help of some research and the growing popularity of hiking, I finally got myself to visit its capital, Taipei.

Since there is a visa requirement (it was easy to apply but still, visas are a hassle), I booked a 5-day trip to maximize what I paid for. It’s pretty long compared to my past international trips, but in the end it wasn’t even enough for all the places I wanted to visit! Continue reading
